Playing disc golf is fun, but many players get tired of just "for fun" play. These players look for something more...competitive. The below video gives a brief overview on two types of competitive play.

So what if you don't have a club in your area, or you want to start a new one for a church, student group, etc.? You can! There are countless unregistered disc golf clubs that just practice for fun!
To get started, have a base of 10 or more players. Beginners are great to include, but they tend to be more inconsistent than already established players.
After determining your starting player base, choose a name. The most common names include the word "club" or "association" in them, however this isn't a requirement.
Now you can look into ordering tags. A club can't be a club without ranks, and having physical bag tags is much more fun than a digital ranking system (although that is useful to supplement the physical tags).
Choosing a tag type can be difficult, since there are so many types. First, think of the cost. How much do you expect most players to be willing to play? Second, think of practicality. How long do you want your tags to last? Would any of your players enjoy having a gimmick tag such as a bottle opener? Do you want your club to look official, or just for fun?
Logos and graphics are crucial for tags, but you don't have to be a graphic designer to have good ones. Many companies that produce bag tags also have graphic designers on staff who can create one from your concept.
Typically the top 1-5 or 1-10 tags are a certain color (such as gold), 6-10 or 11-20 are another (such as silver) and 11+ or 21+ are the last (such as white). This adds some prestige to climbing the ladder. You can choose any colors, but make sure they work well with your logo.
Most clubs charge for their tags, which typically require renewal every year, in order to cover membership and production costs. The year the tag/membership is good for is printed on the tag itself.
